He is a Columbia explorer and the world age record holder at the largest desert ultramarathon in the world (Al Marmmoom Ultramarathon 270 K).
In October 2020, Marios Giannakou climbed the peak of Olympus with Eleftheria Tossiu, the first person with paraplegia to climb the highest peak of the Balkans.
